Indignation

This is unfair!

Climate change includes a wide array of injustices; feelings of indignation show that we perceive them.

Climate indignation is ethically important, but we need to engage with it constructively — directing our actions toward those who hold responsibility and power, for example.

Question: What climate injustices spark indignation in me, and how can I channel its energy for justice work?

Action

Speak up about what feels unfair

If something feels wrong, name it. Write a letter, make a poster, attend a meeting, support an environmental justice group, or talk with classmates about who is most affected and whose voices need to be heard.

Why unfairness sparks indignation

Climate impacts are not shared equally. Communities with fewer resources often face greater risks despite contributing less to the problem. Recognizing that unfairness can create a strong urge to demand something better.

Fairness matters to others too

Young people around the world are speaking up about who bears the greatest climate burdens. Their stories show how a sense of unfairness can become motivation to listen, organize, advocate, and stand alongside others.
