Disappointment

I felt so disappointed by this climate decision.

We feel disappointment when actions don’t match our ideals, whether they are stated or unstated. Amidst climate work, there are both disappointments and, sometimes, positive surprises.

Question: How to allow disappointment to inform our vision of what we would like to see in the world?

Action

Adjust, then try again

Maybe a project failed, a leader did not follow through, or people did not show up. Give yourself permission to be disappointed, then decide what is worth trying next. Change usually takes more than one attempt.

Why disappointment happens

We feel disappointed when reality falls short of what we hoped would happen. Climate progress can be uneven, and promises are not always kept. That does not mean the effort was pointless or that future progress is impossible.

Learn

Progress is rarely a straight line

Other young people have seen climate projects stall, policies fail, or people lose interest. Their stories show that setbacks are part of change—and sometimes a disappointing result becomes the reason someone tries a new approach.
