Loss

It feels terrible to lose this.

Climate crisis includes a profound array of various losses, both tangible and intangible, certain and uncertain; like the extinction of species, or the loss of snow in winter. Some losses are invisible to others, such as the loss of personal dreams for the future.

It is important to honor what is lost and celebrate what is not yet lost.

Question: How could I pay respect to my feelings of loss?

Action

Honor what matters to you

If a place, season, tradition, or part of nature has changed, find a way to recognize what it means to you. Take photos, write about it, help restore a local space, or share memories with people who knew it too.

Why climate loss hurts

Climate change can alter places and experiences we feel connected to, from snowy winters to coastlines, forests, wildlife, or family traditions. Losing something familiar can be deeply personal, even when others do not notice it.

Memories matter

Other young people are seeing places and traditions they love change too. Their stories show that noticing and grieving those changes can be part of caring—and can sometimes inspire people to protect what remains.
