Have you ever felt overwhelmed, sad, or anxious about climate change? What brought on those feelings?

I get angry when I think about how some people are dealing with way more of the effects of climate change than others. Some communities have worse heat, flooding, or pollution, even though they may not have caused as much of the problem. It just feels really unfair.

What inspired you to take action for the planet?

Learning that climate change affects people differently made me want to care more about it. It is not just about animals or nature. It is also about people being able to live somewhere safe and have clean air and water.

How has climate change affected your family, school, or hometown?

There are definitely more days when it feels way too hot to be outside for long. At school, we sometimes have to think about the heat or air quality before doing things outdoors. It is weird and frustrating that this is becoming normal.

How do you talk to your family or friends about climate change?

Usually it comes up when we see something in the news or when the weather feels really strange. Sometimes we joke about it at first, but then we end up talking about how serious it actually is.

How have your thoughts or feelings about climate change changed over time?

I used to mostly feel worried about climate change, but now I feel more angry too. The more I learn, the more frustrating it is to know people have understood this problem for a long time and we are still dealing with it. That anger also makes me want to do something instead of just ignore it.

The ocean is so big and so vast that I both greatly fear and admire it. It is strong and commanding in a way that could easily overpower me. But, it can also be calm and provides so much life. Being at the beach puts into perspective how small we truly are in the world and makes my own problems seem silly.

I remember first entering college and feeling confused and surprised that so many people weren’t planning to study sustainability because I felt that climate change is the most important issue of our time. I still believe that but also see how climate change is an intersectional issue and connected to everything that people care about.

That “wake-up moment” at the Fridays for Future protest changed the course of my life, infusing its major decisions with the perspective that we must preserve our Earth for future generations and take action now to both mitigate and adapt to climate change.
